Where can I find zippo lighters in a walmart?

So i heard you can buy Zippos at a walmart. How do you refill Zippo lighters with the butane aerosol can?

Hi everyone,

I'm having trouble refilling my zippo lighter. I bought a can of zippo butane fuel but its got this weird pressure system i cant figure out, sort of like a hairspray can, but the nozzle is impossible to figure out how the fuel actually comes out.

The directions on the can are cryptic and dont help at all. Do you hold it upright and stick it in the zippo padding, or do you hold it downwards? I tried both ways and got my fingers frozen for some reason.

Looking for advice from someone who actually knows what refiller I'm talking about.

Someone help!|||zippos take lighter fluid, not butane...

all you do with a zippo... is pull out the piece... hold it upside down and put the bottle on top of it, upside down.. and squeeze a few times... so that there is about a tablespoon of fuel in it..

now for a butane lighter... you need to take a small object like a knife, or a screwdriver, that is really small made for eyewear or something, and prod it in the bottom of the lighter... there should be a little metal tube... smaller than a toothpick... you have to press down on that while it is upside down...

this releases the air in the lighter...

then you take your butane can and shake it up real good, and then press down with the can on to that same little tube... with the tube that is on the butane can... and let it sit for about 8 seconds... and then take it off, and then let the lighter set for about a minute before lighting, so that the gas can get room temperature...|||u r using the wrong type of fuel the stuff u need comes in a bottle and u just squirt some into the padding. the kind u have is for butane lighters only not kerosene lighters (your zippo)

hope this helps|||if your zippo is an mlp lighter it does take butane and ur just doing something wrong, but if u have a traditional zippo pocket lighter go buy some zippo lighter fluid take out the insert lift the the part that says lift to fill and fill until i leaks out of the top wipe or burn excess fuel off. trust me i know what im talking about i've been collecting zippo lighters for some time.|||Um, You don't.|||Butane Lighters are a different type of lighter than a Zippo type. They have a small valve on them that the compressed in that can you have gets squirted into. You need to buy regular lighter fluid in the squeeze type bottle.

How long does zippo lighter fluid last?

How long does zippo lighter fluid last in a can that's been opened, but is now closed?|||I have two different containers of lighter fluid for zippo lighters. One is a plastic container, and the other is one of the metal ones. I've had both for over 4 years and they are still as full as the last time they were used.

Each time you open one of them to fill the lighter, there may be some evaporation, but my husband and I both use these types of lighters most of the time, and our fluid supplies are still going strong.

What we seem to go through the most are the flints for the lighters.

Good luck with your own Lighter and the fluid. Just remember to re-seal the container every time you use it.

Blessings to you!

Does a new zippo need the flint replaced?

How can I replace a wick in a Zippo?

My mom bought me a Zippo for my birthday. I've never had one before so I don't know how they work, and I pulled out the wick. Upon further research, I learned that I should have left it alone. Can I put it back in or do I have to get a new one? If I can put it back, how?

Thanks in advance.|||1 - Remove the insert from the body or shell of the Zippo (by gripping the bottom of the lighter and on either side of the chimney and pulling apart) as if you were going to re-fuel it.

2- Unscrew the flint spring found on the bottom of the insert, but be careful because since it is spring-loaded it might fall out of your hand when it is unscrewed. If the flint spring screw is too tight to unscrew by hand, use a small flat screwdriver to loosen it first. You can also use the top lid of your lighter to do this as well.

3 - Put the flint spring into the empty shell of the Zippo. Tip out the flint from the bottom of the insert into the empty shell of the Zippo for safekeeping. If it does not fall right out, give it a gentle tap and it should fall right out.

4 - Remove the felt pad and any spare flints (if you keep spares between the felt and the cotton wadding) and set those too in the Zippo shell. Set the Zippo shell aside.

5 - Using the tweezers or needle-nose pliers, pull out the cotton wadding one piece at a time. You'll notice that it is not all one big wad of cotton but many small overlapping wads. As you set them aside, lay them in more or less the same order or configuration as they were inside the insert. (this will be helpful later).

6 - Insert the new Zippo Wick into the wick hole by way of the chimney. Pull it through so that there is only as much wick in the chimney as will reach the top of the chimney.

7 - Using your pliers, tweezers, or little finger, bend the wick within the insert so that it won't fall out through the hole as you work.

8 - Begin to replace the cotton wadding in reverse order than you pulled it out. The pieces each should have some shape that you can fit together like a puzzle.

9 - As you replace the cotton, make sure to bend and weave the wick through and between pieces of the cotton wadding. You should run out of length of wick before you run out of cotton.

10 - Replace the felt pad (along with any flints that belong beneath it). Replace the flint. Insert and screw the flint spring until it won't turn any more. There is no need to screw too tightly as long as it does screw in all the way so that the lighter will close properly.

11 - If you used a bit of the length of the wick as a handle in step 6, trim the excess wick so that it is level with the chimney.|||The wick should have a wire inside of it. Open the lighter and pull the core out (the entire metal piece). Looking at the bottom, you should see a small hole in the middle of the stuffing (next to the larger hole with a screw in it that is used for the flint). Turn the core right-side up, start feeding the wick back through the hole it cam out of until the wire comes out the bottom of the hole. Pull the wire through the bottom until there is just enough wick at the top.

If there is no wire on the wick, or if it has been trimmed to short to be able to pull it through, then you may have to buy a new wick -- they shouldn't be too expensive.

On a Zippo lighter, how often do you have to expose new wick?

I've been told that every so often on a Zippo lighter you have to pull the wick up and clip it so that some newer wick is exposed. Does anyone know about how often that is or when I know I should do that? Thanks!|||It all depends on how much you use the lighter, and how long you leave the lighter on at a time. If the wick is frayed, and the flame is poor, you need to trim it and add length.|||i use matches...theyre more fun to set things on fire with..

Can you use any kind of lighter fluid for a zippo lighter?

My grandma gave me my grandpas old zippo lighter from the 70s or 80s. Do you have to use zippo lighter fluid or can you use any? And are there any precautions to take since it hasnt been used in like 20 years. It still makes a spark. And how do you fill it.|||You'll find everything you need to know on the Zippo website. Or ask someone who has one.

To fill it, hold the outer case in one hand and the cooling grille in the other and pull. Lighter fluid is added to the white fluffy stuff inside until it is wet (not full!)

Use any brand of lighter fluid and nothing else. It is safer and using other things can make the flame stink and smoky.

Precautions: fill it and try it outside, not indoors!

Is it possible to buy a new zippo case?

Can anyone tell me the problem my zippo won't keep lit even in a slight breeze or even if you breath on it. It used to be windproof but now its not, I've tried everything could it possibly be my wick?|||You are correct. Most likely this is caused by the wick not able to be saturated with the needed amount of lighter fluid. I would try replacing the wick if it were me.|||Wicks usually don't ever go bad - in fact, if you leave it alone save for a few squirts of lighter fluid inside the chimney every now and then to clean it off, you'll probably never have to trim it, either. You should check the amount of fluid, usually that's the problem. When mine get low on fluid, the flame gets small and goes out very easily.

What kind of lighter fluid can I put in a zippo lighter?

My dad gave me his dead Zippo lighter. I know how to refill it, but can I just put charcoal lighter fluid in it or do I have to use the real fluid they sell that is made for zippo lighters?|||If you fill a Zippo with charcoal lighter fuel, you can probably say goodbye to yer eyebrows, nose hairs, or any other part of your body close to the explosion when it happens.

If you put butane in a regular Zippo, yer gonna have a boatload of problems. Unless, of course, it has the little thingie on the bottom for butane fuel and actually runs on butane.

Regular Zippos run quite well on Ronsonol Lighter Fuel, just saturate the cotton after you remove the case. Ronsonol is available just about anywhere and it's cheap. Or at least cheaper than buying a whole new Zippo when you try to fuel it with butane or a visit to the burn unit.|||Butane "lighter fuel" is not a fluid at atmosphere pressure. It'll just turn to gas and go away as soon as you try putting it into the wick.

Gasoline is crap. Any kind won't work well, and will probably clog and require total cleaning of the wick %26amp; lighter. Kerosene or Deisel; worse.

The TSA web site %26lt;%26lt;specifically%26gt;%26gt; says that zippo type and disposable butane type lighters are permitted in carry on bags. It does not matter if they have fuel in them or are empty. Those who say otherwise have not read the rules.

The web site also specifically says that all lighters are prohibited in checked luggage, unless they are either empty (which yours is), or they are inside of a special DOT approved transport case.

So, since it is new and has never been filled, you can take it either in carry on or in checked luggage. Personally, I would take it with you in carry on luggage.

Can you take lighter fluid from a bic or other lighter and put them them in a zippo?

Also, can you take lighter fluid for a grill and put in a zippo lighter? If not yes to either of the above, where can I buy lighter fluid?|||No.

Regular lighters use compressed Butane. Zippos don't. They use light petroleum distillate or synthetic isoparaffinic hydrocarbon.

EDIT: You can buy lighter fluid at hardware stores, some grocery stores, liquor stores, or even gas stations. They sell it all over. Or you can order it online from zippo.com.

EDIT 2: As for your grill question, are you asking if you can put propane in a zippo? No.|||Hello there,

Take the fluid from a Bic and put it in a Zippo? No. The Bic and other disposable lighters use butane. If you open the lighter the fluid becomes a gas and goes into the air. You cannot tranfer it to a Zippo. Also, even if you could transfer it to the Zippo, it would not work in the Zippo. The Zippo is designed for a liquid lighter fluid.

Charcoal lighter fluid in a Zippo? Well you could get it in there. But it is not safe to use because of the flash point. You could get seriously injured and you will destroy your Zippo. This is a terrible idea. Do not try it.

Where to buy? Cigarette lighter fluid is commonly available. Of course tobacco shops have it. So do drug stores, discount stores (like Wal-mart) and even most grocery stores.

Later,|||There is butane fuel inside the bic and you can't light a zippo with butane. You would need lighter fluid for zippos. Ok so I did it anyway. You might begin at this link|||You can actually buy new flints if you have used the ones that are built into the bottom. Slide it out, and you will find a tiny screw in the bottom of the body of the lighter which leads to a small tube. There are flints in there. If there are no flints in your lighter, simply buy some more. They are fairly easy to find. If a place has lighter fluid, they usually have flints, as well. How to get rid of scratches on a zippo lighter?

I just got this zippo lighter called,"lucky Ace" but i accidently droped it and made like 2 or 3 scratches on it and there like 2 and a half centimers long how can i remove those scratches?|||You can try some very fine buffing compound and rub the compound gently into the scratches, if they are any deeper I would send it back to the Zippo manufacturer in Bradford, PA. Zippo usually guaranties their lighters for life.

What can I use as a substitute for Zippo fuel?

Would ordinary naphtha, white gas, rubbing alcohol or kerosene work? If so, which would work best? Is there a significant advantage to the Zippo brand?|||NO NO NO NO!! You need to use lighter fluid in a lighter. Zippo isn't the only company to make it, they are all about the same, but you NEED to use lighter fluid unless you want to either have a lighter that doesn't work at all, one heck of a big fire or your hands or face burned quite badly.|||You can use Ronsonol, Naphtha, and Coleman Fuel. I would suggest coleman fuel, it's like $9 a gallon vs about $59 a gallon for Zippo fluid, and $55 for Ronsonol fluid.

Why does my Zippo lighter take so long to light up?

I have used Zippo lighters for a number of years now but I have noticed that once they have been used for a year or more they become increasingly difficult to light.

Is it something with the wick I need to address? I just don't get it.|||If you're getting a spark from the flint, it can ONLY be two things.

1. The wick is too short or dirty. Using a cheaper fluid will create a "dirty" or greasy film on the wick causing a tough light.

2. Low or cheaper fluid.

How can I get a Zippo without my parents knowing?

I'm only 12 years old. My parents disprove smoking and my dad doesn't like anything to do with smoking or illegal things (like burning your own fire in your back yard or taking fruit from a tree that has an over abundant supply). So he's going to say no if my Mom got me a Zippo because she'd tell my dad. I don't smoke illegaly, never will. And I just want it for the American pride, but my parents won't understand. How can I get a Zippo?|||A Zippo is a brand of lighter. Just have someone take you down the local gas station (or ride your bike there) and buy a Zippo lighter. The gas station attendants aren't going to care how old you are - they CAN sell you a lighter (obviously they CAN'T sell you cigarettes). Most gas stations should have them. If your local one doesn't, find the closest place that does and have someone drive you there. Find an older teen around you who has a car and doesn't mind taking you. Ask nicely!|||You should be able to buy a lighter yourself. The age requirement only applies to the cigarettes themselves, not the lighter. On the other hand, you have to be 18 in some states to buy the fluid. If there is an empty Zippo for sale without the fluid, it should be legal. You can tell the cashier, if they ask, that you are buying it as a gift for a relative. As for your parents, if they find it, as long as you never plan on filling it with lighter fluid, maybe you can persuade them to let you keep it if you never get it filled.|||Smoking tobacco is not the answer youngen your parents are right. You should listen to them they been around awhile.

I suffered Head and neck cancer from smoking so don't start smoking it can kill you or damage your body.

Go to a cancer unit and see what goes on ask to be showed around the cancer unit. Because if you smoke you could end up just like all those people and cancer treatments suck. I took 42 treatments of radiation and 3 treatments of chemo

So please don't smoke and ex smoker and a Cancer survivor I am.|||its easy. all you have to do is ride your bike down to the local convenience store, by the lighter and say its for your dads birthday, and go home and hide it in your garage or attic or something. ; ) just do it|||You can get a zippo by waiting until you're 18. Does Anyone Know How Long An Average ZIPPO Will Burn Before The Fuel Runs Out?

Can I put Lighter Fluid in a Zippo after having Gasoline in it?

It will just take 2 weeks to get a no. It will take time for a custom engraving as artwork will need to be made to create the template. It WILL be expensive

How much lighter fluid are you meant to put in a Zippo?

I've always found Zippo's method of storing fluid - soaking cotton wool - rather crude.

1. Are you meant to fill it till it's thoroughly soaking (I read it's meant to be so damp that lighter fluid can pour out of it!)?

2. Is this cotton wool system really that effective?

3. Once fully filled, how long can it be expected to last?|||it is a crude method, beware not to fill too much cos it leaks in your pocket and gives a petrol burn down your leg, take it from one who knows and has done it.

i went back to disposable lighters.

and also there is no set limit to filling or knowing how long it will last, at least when you use other lighters you get some warning that it is dying, zippo's just stop working. not a reliable form of ignition but a great gadget to play with if you are an arsonist.|||soak it until you see liquid.|||I usually, when it is dry, pull the felt back, and fill and let absorb, I do this until the fuel isn't on top of the cotton, however I can see that the fuel has drenched the cotton but its barely absorbed. Depending on your lighter it can ange from a day to a month, Usually Zippos last at least 2 weeks, mine can go a month or so. Go in Christ|||Personally, I don't think it's worth the hassle. Disposable lighters are so much easier and safer|||Do what they say. Fill it til it's pretty saturated. They are unique and very effecient. They are collectors items if they are old or unique. Why use it if you think it crude?? That's wierd. It's very effective and lasts as long as it lasts depending on use...duh. That only makes sense. Be careful, don't burn yourself.|||soak it but you dont want it to pour out you'll catch your hand on fire.|||Lighter fuel can be supplied in capsules for a single refill.

These hold 5ml of fuel.|||You add lighter fluid until the cotton wool is soaked. The thicker peice at the base shouldn't be soaked through though.|||Don`t overfill,if overfilled shake out excess fluid, because any leakage will cause chemical burns on leg if placed in pocket. The cotton only needs to be slightly damp, and I would guess under normal usage you would get approximately a carton of cigarette's lit with one fill.

How do I replace lighter fluid in a zippo?

How do I replace lighter fluid in a zippo?|||The underside of the lighter is a dense felt pad. On one side is a brass screw, which holds both the pad and the flint in place. To fill the lighter with fluid, pry the pad up with a flat object or pull some loose threads with your fingertips. You'll be able to see cotton underneath and possibly the end of the wick. Pour in lighter fluid until the cotton turns dark. If you overfill, the fluid can spill out.

Remove the inside unit from the case. Lift the corner of the felt pad on the bottom of the insert to reveal the packing material in the fuel chamber. Saturate the packing with Zippo lighter fluid. Fill slowly, taking care to never overfill. Avoid getting the lighter fluid on your skin as it can be a skin irritant. If contact with skin does occur, wash the effected area with mild soap and water.

Insert the inside unit back into the case, making sure to wipe the lighter and your hands dry before igniting. As far as I know there are no markings to guide you. You have to watch the cotton batting to see when it is becoming saturated. I always lift the felt on the bottom so I can see the cotton batting. I put in a squirt or two of fluid and watch how fast the cotton batting absorbs it. When the cotton battings starts to take a while to absorb the fluid, I stop there. How come the fuel in my zippo dries out so quickly ?

I haven't even use and the fuel is gone in my zippo lighter. Is there any problems with the lighter or it is normal?|||Hello there,

Each Zippo case is a little different. I have had many and each seems to loose gas at a different rate than the next one.

With wear from use, the lid no longer seals well. Smaller Zippos seem to loose gas faster that the full sized ones. You might see if the lid is seating well and evenly. Also, make sure the inner section is all the way down. If it is up a just a little that can cause the lid not to seal well.

Later,|||That's normal, mine does the same. I think it's because when you shut the lid it isn't airtight so the gas still escapes, just slower than it would if you left the lid lying open. Unless you taped it shut then I don't think there's anyway to stop it from happening.

How often should you refuel a zippo lighter?

The regular ones not zippo blue. Also what stores sell fuel and how much is it?|||Refueling depends on how much you use the lighter. Refill it when it goes empty as if you try it when you feel like it, it may not need filling and will just run out of the container. There are a lot of stores that sell the fuel, you just have to look or ask. Wal-Mart, Kmart, the dollar stores, grocery stores, etc. The stores set the price so it would be hard to give you a price but I think the stores just mentioned would be the lowest in price|||just refill it whenever the flame begins to flicker out i used to top it off once a week

How long does a fully fueled Zippo last?

Why does the spark of my zippo's lessen in time? How can i increase it again?

I have gone through several zippo's already. I use all zippo replacement parts and fuel. I just noticed that after about 6 monts of use, even with new flints, the sparks are significantly less than when it was new. It gets to a point that its really difficult to get a spark. All my old zippo's have a comparatively dimmer spark than a brand new one. First i thought it might be finger oil that accumulates on the wheel, but i've tried washing it down with diesel and brushing it. I've also tried lengthening the spring to increase the pressure between the flint and the wheel. I dont think that the wheels have gone blunt because they still feel as rough as the new ones. I've ran out of ideas and now i'm back to disposable lighters. Its sad. Help me|||Do you replace the flint? I've had the same Zippo for 20 years with no problems. Over the years, though, it's gotten a little scratched up. What can I do to take care of the scratches already on it and what else can I do to prevent further scratching?|||You could try jeweler's rouge, which is a very, very fine grain polish, to buff out the scratches. My husband bought his rouge at a car supply place, so try there. As for preventing scratches, I'm not sure how you'd do that except for coating the case in something scratch resistant and not jamming it in the same pocket at your keys and coins. |||you can try some of the liquid used to fix scratches on glasses that is my best guess.

Can I take a fuel less zippo lighter onto an international flight?

Ok I'm flying to England in about a month and I have a fuel less zippo lighter. I LOVE this zippo lighter and i don't want it to get confiscated. Can I take it onto this flight legally and not get it confiscated?|||If you are boarding a flight leaving from the US, you are allowed to carry a Zippo lighter in your carry-on bag, regardless of whether it has fuel in it or not -- the TSA specifically notes that unsealed lighters, such as the Zippo lighter, are allowed in carry-on luggage unless they are a torch-style lighter that emits a blue needle-like flame.

You are also allowed to place the unfueled lighter in your checked luggage, but if the lighter has ever had fuel in it, you'd need to put it into an approved case, as is described in the second link below. (Since the TSA allows the lighter to be carried onboard the plane with you, though, getting the case for this specific trip isn't necessary for your carry-on bag.)
