What kind of lighter fluid can I put in a zippo lighter?

My dad gave me his dead Zippo lighter. I know how to refill it, but can I just put charcoal lighter fluid in it or do I have to use the real fluid they sell that is made for zippo lighters?|||If you fill a Zippo with charcoal lighter fuel, you can probably say goodbye to yer eyebrows, nose hairs, or any other part of your body close to the explosion when it happens.

If you put butane in a regular Zippo, yer gonna have a boatload of problems. Unless, of course, it has the little thingie on the bottom for butane fuel and actually runs on butane.

Regular Zippos run quite well on Ronsonol Lighter Fuel, just saturate the cotton after you remove the case. Ronsonol is available just about anywhere and it's cheap. Or at least cheaper than buying a whole new Zippo when you try to fuel it with butane or a visit to the burn unit.|||Butane "lighter fuel" is not a fluid at atmosphere pressure. It'll just turn to gas and go away as soon as you try putting it into the wick.

Gasoline is crap. Any kind won't work well, and will probably clog and require total cleaning of the wick %26amp; lighter. Kerosene or Deisel; worse.

|||Zippo or Ronson fuel is naptha. Sold in hardware stores in the paint aisle as a solvent. Lots cheaper per quart than little zippo fuel cans (Refill you handy zippo fuel cans for easy lighter filling)

Coleman camp stove fuel is also naptha. Probably not as cheap as that sold as paint solvent

|||FIRST... BUTANE is a GAS at sea-level pressure, it is only a "fluid" under pressure. You do NOT put butane in a Zippo (only a Zippo-BLU). Attempting to put butane in a standard Zippo is VERY dangerous.

The fluid you want is LIGHTER fluid... either Zippo, Ronson, or similar brand. It looks like this: http://www.cupojoes.com/cgi-bin/spgm?dpt鈥?/a> A twelve ounce can costs about $5, and will last a daily smoker about 6 months.

Charcoal lighter fluid is NOT what you want to use, though it will work|||There's lighter fluid called " Ronsenol". You can get it at just about any store in the section where you normally find lighters. It's the best for Zippos.||| It is best to use what is recommended by Manufacture, but not a big dead to use another.|||ronson lighter fluid|||gasoline|||you don't have to use Charcoal fluid. just use regular butane fluid. just like fo any other kind of lighter too.|||normally, butane fluid.|||you need to use regular butane, not charcoal starter fluid....|||hahahahahah you need to know ha
